A writer and self-taught photographer, I combine the languages of words (the ink) and pictures (the light) to tell stories about the strange world we live in. My practice of photography is that of a flâneur and consists in letting curiosity guide the camera as i walk around (and, folks, this is serious business).
My projects often explore the relation between text and photographs. Texts are not mere captions, nor are the images mere illustrations. I want the two languages to respond to each other to tell stories that take you to places of freedom, imagination and rebellion. My work is a cauldron of meaning-making. It may include the occasional touch of gentle irony.
My name’s Pierre François Docquir (he/him). Originally from Belgium, i’m now based in Lisbon, Portugal, after a few good years in London, UK.
In the Letters to a Young Poet, Rilke suggests that you should only write if you feel an irresistible internal drive to do so — would you die, he asks, if you were forbidden to write?
As a young adult, i took this advice very seriously and thus kept myself busy with other things. Many years later, the desire to tell stories has not vanished and the time has now come to heed the call.
I run Creative Photo Walks in Lisbon: These are photo walks for the curious, a photography experience for the seekers of meaning — a slow, fun and creative approach to the city. Whether you’re a seasoned photographer or an absolute beginner armed only with a smartphone, give yourself the opportunity to experience the joy of seeing.
I would like you to know that I'm delighted and honoured by your interest in my work.

Drop me an email if you'd like a to see a print of one of my images on your wall, if you wish to discuss an idea for a collaboration or if you'd like to share your reaction to my work.
